Żminijietna – Voice of the Left appeals to the government to withdraw the planning development concession given to MIDI to develop Manoel Island. This has to be done without any conditional charges or exchange of land in another locality. The land in question should be returned to the public.

Minister Mario de Marco should also intervene in this issue to safeguard public interest before any other interest. The proposed development is bigger than what was originally approved by Mepa. We believe that the authorities should view things from a different perspective to how they are viewed today. To date, it seems that private interest prevails over the national interest.

The land taken away by the massive developments of Tigné and Portomaso must be compensated for by returning Manoel Island to the Maltese public. We appeal to the other parties to abide by this principle.

Żminijietna agrees with the proposal put forward by the Green Party, Alternattiva Demokratika, to convert this locale into an eco and historical island, whereby the only interventions will be to safeguard and maintain the historical and natural environment of the area.
